Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)
The first of the modern ETG Companies, Energy Transportation Corp., was formed in 1972 to specialize in international LNG project development and transport. Its achievements in LNG shipping included the financing, construction and operation of a US$1 billion fleet of eight 125,000 cubic meter LNG ships, which at its peak moved annually over 15% of all LNG produced in the world.
In China, the ETG companies' gas sector activities include service as LNG Shipping Advisor to the Guangdong LNG Transportation Project, providing analysis and recommendations on strategic and operating matters. ETG is also a shareholder of the Chinese LNG ship-owning companies.
ETG partnered with leading companies around the world, including Tenneco (US), Utilicorp (US), ROMGAS and CONEL (Romania), to develop LNG import- and export-related projects, and advised governments including those of Portugal, Turkey, Pakistan, Israel, Oman, and China, on LNG-related matters.
ETG's advisory and professional services entities continue to advise national governments and advise and partner with major state-owned and global corporations regarding LNG and transportation strategy, economics, project development, and commercial negotiation.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
LPG is an extremely clean, compact, portable fuel with thousands of applications.
ETG, with its partner UGI Corp., the largest US LPG company, has invested in and developed a leading East China LPG distribution company since the late 1990s as a platform for organic and M&A growth in this important part of the regional and national Chinese economy.
ETG has also formed a coalition with its partners Kosan Crisplant and IFU, the Danish international aid agency, and other organizations, with support from the World LP Gas Association (WLPGA), to explore how LPG may be provided on a commercially sustainable basis to a large portion of the nearly 3 billion bottom-of-the-pyramid consumers in the developing world. LPG has the potential to significantly improve these families' health and quality of life, cut unproductive labor time devoted to fuel gathering, and avoid significant deforestation, were LPG widely used in place of traditional indoor fuels such as wood and charcoal.
ETG is a member of the Industry Council of the WLPGA. ETG's Chairman, Kimball Chen, is the WLPGA's First Vice President, and the WLPGA board leader regarding the role of the LPG industry in mitigating climate change.
